There was 2 different prices on the online menu for each roll. Needless to say I was pretty shocked when I got there for my takeout and the tuna roll was $8 - yes. The other rolls were just as expensive. Fact is they didn't seem that much bigger, or tastier. Matter of fact the salmon, tuna, and yellow tail were all pretty bland - there seemed to be too much vinegar in the sushi rice as well. All in all, I wouldn't take a date here. Expensive and bland.

This restaurant had decent food and service, but unfortunately it was nothing memorable. I love Asian food but have certainly had much better. It was alright, but for the price wasn't that special.

It's close to 5 stars. We eat sushi every week but the sushi here was a cut above and notably fresh and amazing! Also had appetizers of steamed dumplings, lobster Rangoon which were also on point as was the shrimp Yaki Soba. Food was great and service was also very good. Definitely going back. I highly recommend you try them!

We just got out of this place. They will know us as we ordered 4 people boat and tempur and left the place with most of the food on the table. I am asian and sushi enthusiast. In fact all 6 of us are. Verdict:I have never tasted this bad fish and rice on the sushi recently past 6 years. (One before was in Las Vegas sushi bar but understood since there is no ocean) It was so bad that I trust this place would not enjoy Japanese or even some of the Americans. Sorry for such a bad review to the owner but I felt obligated to other potential Asian tourist to avoid this place. Went in and got out in 25 min and paid 160$ and change. I saw the review of 3 stars. Didn not believe it as often the review can be different than my own and tried it. This time the review was dead on.

Food was good. But don't come hungry because you'll be waiting at least an hour for sushi. Place isn't even full and we've been here for 2 hours waiting for more sushi. They don't get in a rush.

Stopped in for lunch. Place is super clean and nice on the inside. Open and airy. Doesn't feel like you're in a Florida strip mall. The sushi was fresh and tasty. I'm not big on cheese or asparagus sushi rolls, which a fare amount of their specialty rolls had in them, that cut down on a lot of rolls to pick from. I kept it simple and wasn't disappointed. The service for lunch was fast and everyone was very friendly and attentive.

Shrimp Tempura roll was very good and so was Steak Tatuki. I'm not a huge Sushi fan but the meats were all very fresh. Average dining experience for lunch.

Seriously one of the most disappointing sushi experiences of my life. I went there for my last sushi meal before my ban on it due to pregnancy, and it was not worth it in the slightest. The service was horrible. It took forever for the guy to take our order. We ordered tuna tataki and tempura soba. When then tuna came you could tell that it was not freshly cut and had been sitting in the fridge in ponzu sauce for a while. The server also got our order wrong and we ended up with udon noodles instead. We would have told him had made an error, had he bothered to come back to our table. After avoiding us for a good 25 minutes and purposely not making eye contact, he finally came over and dropped the check. Not once asking how the food was. There were only 3 other tables in the restaurant at the time.

My friend and I decided to stop for lunch on our break. Big mistake and a waste of 15$. The miso soup is VERY salty, did not taste right at all. We both ordered the Mexican roll and we were both extremely disappointed. First of all these orange fish eggs covered and over powered the whole meal. The spicy mayo was replaced with kimchee sauce which was not tasty. Lastly the eel sauce tasted more like honey and had a weird texture/color. Just not satisfied at all. Save your money and go somewhere else.

I had one really excellent experience here. I had the Red Dragon, the TGIF, the yellow tail, and the JB Roll. (I didn't have all four to myself, I was sharing!) They were excellent. However, I went back to Heart Rock about two weeks later, and was really disappointed. I have been there a few additional times and have also ordered takeout. I have been generally disappointed. The waitresses are nice, but the hostess is hostile, loud, and awkward. Heart Rock would probably earn a three or four stars from me if it were in an area with a smaller population. However, I expect more out of food in Fort Lauderdale, especially for the price. Their competition is better.

If you want above average Sushi at high prices and speed of service that is as fast as a Snail, this is THEY place.

Good location before the movies at gateway, not far from the beach. Service is good and it is in the process of being renovated, now, it looks modern and the happy hour prices are good so take advantage of them. I will come back again and will give a try on the thai food again since it was not a 5 star worthy but I will have to try the sushi. I tried the chicken ginger, it was ok but nothing to brag about.

  • Romes G.

Service was okay. Hostess had an attitude. Sushi was warm (supposed to be cold). Mistook and made my order wrong. I made sure it had spicy mayo but when I got it, it had none. Never going there again. No wonder it was dead on a Saturday

Have not been to this place in a little over a year. I remember it was amazing last time I went! Yesterday went for lunch and was more then disappointed. Granted the remodel looks amazing, the size of the rolls shrank, staff seemed more interested in getting us out of the empty restaurant, and the quality was just not as good as it use to be... Was very disappointed... Next time going to the Japanese market 4 doors down for the sushi!

I must have chosen the wrong day to stop by this location. It was empty. When we walked in, the waitress offered us menus that were sticky with sauce or something. I guess they didn't have time to clean off the menus from the night prior? When I asked the same waitress for suggestions and if they had any specialty rolls - she couldn't think of 1 single roll. Sad. I ended up having a shrimp tempura roll that was cold, and my friend had the Curry Chicken. The sushi was bad but the curry was decent

I came here the other night to have dinner with a friend. We walked in and were greeted and seated within moments. The waitress handed us our menus and took the drink orders. We searched over the menu and found a few rolls to share (so easy having dinner with a vegan at these places). We ordered the Vegetable Sushi plate. It came with a cucumber roll, oshinko roll, vegetable hand roll and two inari sushi then a choice of soup or salad. The food came with very little wait. I ate most of the cucumber roll, and one of the inari sushi. The inari sushi is a fried tofu wrapped around white rice. It was good. I have never had it before. My friend, he ate the remainder of the food. The service was good and the food came fast. My only argument is that I like my rolls cold. The rolls were more room temperature. It is not a huge deal, but it would have made it better for my taste.

I've been here several times. The food is ok. Service is good and fast. If you're getting anything cooked it's a pretty good place to eat if you're stuck in the fort Lauderdale area. But! If you want sushi go down a few doors to the Japanese market sasaya. Way better sushi. Also do not get the ramen. I don't know what the hell it is but it's not ramen. It's just ramen noodles in some vegetable broth and mostly veggies you'd never find in any real ramen. It was terrible. I'm giving it 2 stars cause I've been more disappointed than satisfied.

For many years this place has been a favorite of ours. I actually took my wife there on our first date. I have been there for many events over the past few years. We went in tonight with another couple and our son. Our bill was going be well over $100. Our son is 3 years old and is a bit picky with what he eats. I wanted to grab a slice of pizza for fun. The host said that we could not bring outside food in because of liability. Needless to say, we will never go back. Sorry that our 3 year old son has yet to acquire a taste for sushi and Japanese food. You lost our business.

I frankly cannot understand the high ratings Heart Rock Sushi get's. I've lived in Japan, traveled extensively in Thailand and usually do my own Asian cooking. However, given the lack of really good Asian restaurants in Broward (though there are a few out West), this review considers its peer group. I've been there 3 times, always with others. My assessment reflects one of the kinder opinions. Sushi - sit at the bar, quality varies all over the place and you need to see it first. Fried food - limp, lifeless, lack of any spices. The gyoza's and dumplings are the worst I've ever had. Noodle and steamed dishes - no taste, no finesse, bland. Salads - appear pre-made and sat for hours. Service - can vary but generally good.

    (2)
  • Danielle F.

Good sushi. Their happy hour Martinis are a great price and delicious! Service is variable. Depends on who you get. The heart rock is great as is the seaweed salad.

  • Nick B.

very average sushi, nothing awful but nothing to write home about -- a bit pricey for par sushi. 2.50 for Nigiri Salmon?! yikes. Considering I usually get take out I now go next door to the Japanese market, just as good (if not better) and half the price. Also yes I kept your pen because you forgot my spicy mayo.

I have had better food from a vending machine.Spring rolls tasteless but for the grease they were cooked in.Miso taste like a bowl of cloudy saline.Sushi delux, hardly, 3 tasteless rolls.Perhaps because the fish was as fresh as the decor, circa 1984.Iwas here before but must have had the thai food because sushi like this ONE DOES NOT FORGET.Enter at your own peril, you have been warned!

Decent - but would probably find another place to go in the future. Had the Red Dragon, Mexican, and California roll and all of these were okay. Upon receiving my plate I immediately had a gnat that was roaming around. Service was fine and nothing over the top. The hostess seemed very awkward and was constantly glaring at our table while we dined.

Hubs and I went to Heart Rock for a casual lunch date this past weekend. Inside it's quiet and relaxing but they do have a few outdoor tables as well. We were seated at a booth and got right down to ordering. My order: Kirin Light (served in a chilled mug, nice touch), miso soup (yummy), the sushi combo platter special: a combo of sushi/sashimi (good but there were a couple not so fresh pieces of sashimi), cold sesame noodle salad (really yummy), a fried shumai, half a california roll, and some other cold salad (very weird). My meal was good. Lots of food but nothing overly special about it. Hubs order: ginger salad (very ginger-y he said), Heart Rock roll (good), and a spicy tuna roll (really yummy! the sauce was more of a kimchee flavor). Note: we always order a side of sriracha but here they have sriracha sauce which is sweeter and just not the same. All in all, its a solid sushi spot but pretty standard issue. You won't find any stand out rolls on the menu and the fish isn't super fresh. I'd go back but I think there are definitely better options in the area.

  • Ariel P.

Servers are oblivious! Will never eat here again, salmon skin roll was stale, Took nearly 20minuntes for our server, to check on our food. The pad Thai was ordered spicy, it was regular (bland). And you might as well ask for the check half way thru your meal otherwise good luck hailing your server for it you'll be there for another 30 minutes.. Publix serves better sushi than this joke of a restaurant.

When I crave simple sushi, I always head to Heart Rock. I feel like this is my healthy option for quick dinner after a long day at the office. I always start with Yakitori. The zucchini and mushrooms on a skewer are so good, and SO cheap. Follow that up with a yummy salad and a roll and I am a happy diner. Arrive early and check out all the cute shops in the plaza.

Best sushi in Pompano. Their Pad Thai and Pad See Yue are my favorite dishes. For appetizers I always get the Crab Rangoon. I am drooling just writing about these dishes.

My first time here was waaaay back in October 2005, when I was in town for Hurricane Wilma. I remember this being one of the few sections of town with power and this place was packed then. Now it's 2013, there are no power outages in Broward County, and this place is again packed on a Thursday night. Very friendly staff and a very mixed crowd make for a lively and welcome feeling. Sushi is done well, some neat rolls and a full menu, but nothing really cutting edge. Maybe it's comfort sushi? They've got a veritable fleet of boats for the big orders. Love the boats, but I can't justify a boat for one. Not yet.

Went here the other day. Ordered a thai dish. It was good but the serving was small and the ice cream scoop size of rice was ridiculously small. Also I got the feeling I overburdening the waiter by even being here- not that I asked for ANYTHING extra. But I hate that "don't bother me pee-on" attitude. Won't be back.

The sushi is good but a bit overpriced. Skip the overpriced drinks. Waitstaff is nice.

Really good sushi, miso soup & salad but lacking good service. It was literally impossible to get the waitresses attention but other than that and the outdated EVERYTHING food was good for the price.

  • Virginia G.

I'm giving this place 5 stars because of the balance of quality, selection, service, and great prices. My hubby wanted sushi for his birthday. Last time we went out to a nice sushi resturant our bill for 2 was over $80, so I had saved up and was prepared to cringe when the bill came. We went with another couple, had soup for an appatizer, a bottle of saki, 4 rolls for the table to share and a sushi boat for 1. Everybody was stuffed to the gills and super satisfied. Then the best surprise came when we got the bill, only $116 for all of that! Great food! Great service! Fantastic prices! No wonder this is a South Florida landmark. :-)

My wife and I went there about two weeks ago, and it was our first time. They have just finished renovating ("still going to do a couple of more things", the owner said) and it looked clean and nice. Our server was wonderful with us and the food was mostly YUMMMMMMY!!! We told all our friends and will be back. My wife had and loved the sushi, and although I really didn't care for the beef gyoza (fried)..it tasted a bit rubbery, that was the only thing that I didn't like. I had the beef yaki soba and it was soooo delicious. And for dessert, we had the fried ice cream. OMG, absolutely delicious, so we will be going back there...absolutely!

(3.5 stars to be exact.) Like beauty, I guess good sushi is in the eye (and perhaps nose) of the beholder. Several Yelpers have shared tepid to cold- as-a-Sushi Witch's tit reviews of Heart Rock, but I have a warm and fuzzy review to share. If you are hanging out on the beach, this is a perfectly good place to go for sushi that is close by, easier to get-to and get seated-in than the tiny Sushi Rock on Las Olas. And the parking is free and easy while the sushi has been 3 stars, A-OK- good each time I've eaten here - and I come here often. The rolls are your best bet, taste/variety and value-wise. The sashimi pieces are a bit on the small side but they have always been fresh- and I always order some. The Specials menu regularly has an interesting non sushi dish and an off-menu roll or two. Take a look. I have received only attentive service here and the place is always busy- especially on the weekends. Neighborhood locals also come to Heart Rock. regularly (like my boyfriend - who I met here, lives nearby, is a picky sushi lover and coincidentally rocks my heart.)

I went to eat with my mom, and the food was horrible, which is shameful because I am a huge sushi fan and there aren't really any place that disappoint me. The fish tasted old, and when we left both my mom and I felt like we could be sick. I don't recommend it, if you know good sushi, you know this spot is not it .

I come here at least once a month with my roomie to enjoy some delicious sushi and a bottle of wine. We love it here, the food is great, and although the service can be a little slow they are really nice. We always start off with the lobster ragoon and miso soup they delicious! The garden salad is good and comes with this great ginger dressing. I love ALL the roles but especially the JB Roll and Spicy Tuna....(thinking about it makes me want one right now). It is a great place to stop at if you are headed to the beach for the evening and the parking is free. It is a much better alternative than Sushi Rok on Las Olas where you have to wait forever on the weekend and is so crowded you feel like your are eating at a table with strangers! I rather relax and enjoy my bottle of wine and sushi while catching up with my roomie!

No me gusta. I was really craving sushi, badly. I know that the sushi in Ft Lauderdale is not the best around, but I still have to try. I went solo here to test the waters before bringing anyone else here. I must say, that walking in, the service was crap-tacular from the get-go. I had to flag down a server/host in order to be seated. I think they may have punished me by putting me in a corner booth away from the rest of the restaurant -- the land of the lost. I contented myself with my solitud and when the server finally came I ordered a Tuna-Sashimi-only Chirashi with a side of spicy sauce and an unsweet tea with lemon. I figured that if it took them this long to get to me the first time, that I would get everything out of the way in one fell swoop. I then went into my sketch-book to deal with the muddled thoughts on my mind. Quite a while later, I finally received my drink and sushi bowl -- at the same time. Why did it take so long? I don't know. Did the food merit the wait? No, it did not. The best way to explain the flavor is that the tuna was "watered down." I never thought that I could think or say that about a piece of meat; but this meat was watered down. The rice was a tad mushy and overcooked and was over-vinegared. I love acids. Vinegar is an acid. This rice had TOO MUCH vinegar for me! I ate the tuna, calculated the bill, tax, and tip in my head (since I was apparently unimportant) and left. I am truly glad I did not bring anyone with me and I shall not return. The service and price coupled with the food are just not good. "EEK" is a very appropriate thought.

  • Kevin F.

When it comes to sushi in the neighborhood, Heart Rock is my old reliable. The fish is consistently fresh, and I frequently order the sashimi combination. The TGIF, red dragon and monster lobster rolls are always tasty. I also usually order the Yellowtail Tataki with 3 different kinds of roe, a "special" they used to offer frequently when I started going here a few years back. Though the dish is no longer on the menu or even on the board of specials, they are always happy to accomodate. Service is hit or miss. I've eaten a full meal here and been out within 45 minutes... but I've also been left waiting for a server to add something to the order or deliver the check many times. If you're in a hurry, sit at the bar and they'll take care of you every time. I can't say I'd go here as much if I didn't live right around the block, but it is definitely a great sushi joint to have close by.

I was shocked to read the bad reviews. This place was really busy on a Thursday night!!! And for good reason the food is awesome that appetizers are great and the desert is delicious. Very nice atmosphere good location great place for an easy, safe first date. I will definitely be going back in the future.

Now if you want a good consistent sushi spot then this is the place. I've never been disappointed. Its not your typical posh expensive sushi restaurant where when you walk in the place is empty, th sushi sucks, and the menu is outrages. This is a cozy sushi spot where it seems like everybody there is a regular. I always get the yuki (steak tar tar) with a quail egg to start and the tuna bomb. if you want to find a little local good sushi bar this is the spot!

2.5 Stars I really want to like Heart Rock Sushi, but the truth is it is very mediocre. We walk in and Heart Rock has tons of personality, but you soon realize they are playing top 40 garbage. It really annoys me when ethnic places play unfitting music. Heart Rock is completely guilty of this mistake. My friend got the curry and I settled on the Heart Rock Sushi. I figured if they were going to do anything well it would be the sushi named after the place. The curry was sweet and I naturally enjoy sweet curry so this one was very likable. It was good, but not the best. My Heart Rock Sushi was very pleasant and clean tasting. Nothing really to write home about. It is a simple roll. They get docked a bit for screwing up my friends order. Other than the misunderstanding, the service was solid, impersonal. The very standard, middle of the road service.

  • Kris F.

First, the bad. It's small and loud, and when absolutely filled with tourists and their children, a little less than intimate. Also, the service is pretty helpless. Our waitress smiled a whole lot, but spoke not enough English to be a waitress in an English speaking country (and my Japanese is atrocious, so I could be no hope). She also forgot my dinner, which was served some time after my husband's. At least she gave me some comped miso soup to nosh on while she was fixing her little error. But then there's the good. I had a wonderful conch appetiser -- thin sliced on cucumber salad with a spicy, punchy kimchee sauce. And I was just CRAVING yaki udon -- which, when I did finally get my noodles -- was delicate and as full of vegetables as it was of chicken. I tasted some of my husband's cut eel roll -- incredibly tasty... Might try it as a hand roll when I'm back... For me, this is the closest sushi house to where I live -- and it's good enough to get my repeat business... I wish they had more "authentic" japanese dishes like my old neighborhood haunt did when I lived in Central Florida, but if I am really craving something off the wall, I'll drive out to Plantation to go to Marumi. Nice, solid, and likely quite dependable. We'll be back.

We have been here numerous times and have usually been quite happy. Tonight was so-so. My combo tempura had delicious chicken and shrimp with a delicate crunchy panko coating. The vegetables, however, were coated in a heavy gummy breading. My husband had his usual sushi pieces which he was happy with. The service was very good, but overly so. PS..... I am fairly certain there was a small worm in my brown rice.

My husband and I came here on our honeymoon a few years ago and thought the sushi was decent. We're from the California bay area so there are loads of sushi restaurants near us and we eat sushi on a weekly basis. From what I remember, the restaurant itself was pretty interesting (had a dimly-lit, rock vibe), but the sushi was just okay. We thought that it was simply because we're used to California sushi (not sure if there is such a thing), but upon reading other reviews, maybe the food just isn't super spectacular. We went with the sushi dinner for two, which was a whole bunch of food, and enjoyed it, but it didn't knock our socks off. If I come back to Fort Lauderdale, I would probably seek out another sushi restaurant to try. Sorry!

    (3)
  • James G.

Heart rock, I gave you two tries. Your servers were off putting. Sushi rolls were very meh. I liked the unagi-don but its not anything special. Not coming here again. Just not worth it with the other great options within walking distance.

  • Leandra F.

I have to agree with the other Yelpers and describe this restaurant as "mediocre" even though it is one of my regular dinner destinations. The sushi is good. Not great. They have a decent choice of rolls and I usually get the Spider Roll (minus the mayo) or the Heart Rock Roll which seems to be the only roll that is not made with fake crab, mayo, or is deep-fried. I have found that this is not unique to the Heart Rock establishment though... It seems like all of the South Florida sushi joints are dominated by these types of rolls. I'm not sure what the deal is with that. Other than the sushi, I order the sunomono with crab, conch, and clam. I also order green salad (love the ginger dressing) and sometimes the tofu agedashi. On one visit, I ordered a few of the skewers which were rather tasty. Lastly, I almost forgot to mention the coconut ice cream for dessert. In fact, it might be worth a visit just for that... Anyway, I keep going back to Heart Rock Sushi because it is in a convenient location, is inexpensive, open late, has a large (free) parking lot, and good service.... even though the servers always make sure to check whether you know what a hand roll is. And yes, I know what it is!

Nothing to write home about. The food is mediocre at best. The salmon tempura roll was stale and tasted like it was fried in the morning, then refried and served to me in the evening. NOT. GOOD. Menu is small, not a lot of variety. Service sucks in all honesty. They messed up my order twice and then there was a fly in my drink. Also, How can you call yourself Thai and not have Thai Tea??! Wtf Heart Rock sushi..wtf....

As a long time resident and former fan of this establishment I'm only sorry I cannot award a half a star. Having lived in Japan and appreciating the country's cuisine I used to appreciate this restaurant because they served many dishes you couldn't find anywhere else. A little more than a year ago it became apparent when we noticed the size of the fish shrank and the size of the rice ball grew. So much so the rice ball looked like a snowball. When we pointed it out to the hostess (the only non-Asian working there) she was quick to defend the restaurant (knowing we were long time customers). "We've never raised our prices." and "we've always served it that size." were her defenses. I didn't appreciate that considering she knew us and our long relationship with them. The final straw came when I had ordered a Naban-yaki udon soup. We had been eating appetizers and when the soup came i was full so I asked to take it home with me. You know how Asian soups are served in big bowls. What came out was a little more than a pint of soup. it contained some noodles, broth, and few vegetables. When I asked what happened to the rest of the soup we were told that's all i sent back. What an out-and-out lie! I was done being insulted. I asked for the manager who said "I'm sorry we'll take care of you "NEXT TIME." Next time? what about this time? So that was it we're thru with Heart Rock. Chintzy food, high prices, and bad service. Save your money if you have a sushi craving see the other places listed here. They're much better and worth the drive.

I have been going for years. I enjoy their food, although I always get the same thing everytime I visit. The latest time the service was TERRIBLE! Our waitress seemed to be in a daze and sleep walking. But, the food was consistent and I enjoyed my date before we hit McSorleys Beach Pub. Salmon sashimi, Tuna Tataki, and spicy tuna roll all were fabulous and I appreciated how fresh the edamame was, although a bit too salty.

This was a plan B for a date I went on and it was okkkkkkk. It was pretty pricey and the server was a little bit curt when we told her we wanted it to go. The eel was yummy but the roll was small for the cost. I probably wouldn't go back unless every other sushi place in the area was closed, like this.

I was just here last Sunday night with a few fellow sushi-freaks. The place was packed! I was shocked to read the bad reviews on YELP!!! I KNOW fresh sushi when I taste it.....and this was FRESH! The salmon was so buttery it practically melted in my mouth. The conch was a tad spicy, but it was firm and not rubbery like I've had before at other places. The spicy tuna was a little boring, but still fresh! The atmosphere is casual and understated, but clean. The service was attentive. WHAT THE F is wrong with the other reviewers????

I think some people are getting Sushi Rock, and Heart Rock mixed up. And it is unfortunate. Because, Heart Rock Sushi is a 10, while the other place is a 3. I love Heart Rock's Yamu roll, and their eel rolls. The only place that comes close to this is Sushi Brokers in Scottsdale.

I wasn't able to change the price range in the edit information. Count this place as $$$$. It's ridiculously overpriced. I'm not local to Ft Lauderdale and might be spoiled with low sushi prices in California. But non-sushi part was also quite unreasonable. Ramen is just a bowl of broth with noodles and a little bit of chicken, for $9 (they put more stuff in fast food ramen places and it costs less). On a top of it, they charged for tea! I added one more star because sushi rolls were not bad.

I used to go here everytime i wanted sushi, last time i went there, my friend found a BUG crawling on his roll, we showed to the waiter/chef and they said "at least it is alive and not dead", they did not care about the incident one bit, it seemed like a common occurrence, it took me 3 years to get my friend to like sushi, I WILL NOT be coming back to this place.

Oh, Heart Rock, how you make my heart swoon. You can catch me here with my sushi-partner-in-crime at least once or twice a week engrossed in conversation over raw fish. While I'm not going to say that this is a 5-star restaurant, I will say that it always hits the spot. Love the iced green tea, all the hand rolls (yes, I know what a hand roll is and stop asking me that!), peanut dressing that goes on the green or thai salad and the coconut ice cream. They just updated their menu so it now looks suspiciously like another sushi/thai joint's menu that I often visit in Fort Lauderdale. The restaurant could use an interior facelift but in the end, if it's clean, who cares. The service is decent, location awesome and parking is free. What more is there to love?

Meh. Been there several times. There is nothing special about this sushi place that distinguishes itself from other typical Japanese restaurants. In fact the food ranged from so-so to terrible. However the ambiance was nice and the service was decent. I believe this place is owned by Thai (they also have some Thai items on the menu). Can be pretty busy on the weekends and they are open till very late (12 am)

Our favorite place for sushi in Fort Lauderdale. Food is consistently good, atmosphere is warm and friendly, and service is always excellent. We dine here often and are never disappointed. Sushi is fresh and well presented as are the salads with ginger dressing. Our favorite roll is the red dragon roll but there are so many good choices on the menu not to mention the nightly specials. We say go, go go!

I used to frequently visit this sushi spot, being Zagat rated and all..but the portions dramatically shrunk over the past few years. Not sure what happened! I loved this place once upon a time...but it has me looking for different sushi establishments. The prices are not commensurate with the quality and portion sizes anymore! Just my humble opinion.

Worst Sushi in 954! Note the similarities in my review with the previous reviewer. I also went twice to Heart Rock. The first time was with my wife and we walked out due to terrible service. I went back... I know... my fault... as George W says "Fool me twice... the point is we should be foolin :) " I went with some friends ordered 6 orders of rolls and some nigiri. We were expecting about 30+ rolls. The server returned with 8 pieces of sushi and we walked the fuck out again!!! I wish I could give this place negative stars...

What the hell? they used instant noodles to make my noodle soup?! gee! their hand rolls look like they were made by a 3 year old. The funny thing was this restaurant was packed with non Asian customers. I feel bad for them.

My fiance and friends have eaten at Heart Rock several times incident free, but after our last visit, I must say, we won't be eating there anymore. Right before we paid our bill, my fiance saw a big roach crawl under our booth. We told our server, and all she said was, "OK. Do you want to talk to the manager?" (no apology whatsoever) and acted like this sort of thing happens all the time. Gross!

I have tried Heart Rock Sushi twice. The first time was on a recommendation from my boss. The second was to give it another shot. I will not be making the same mistake twice. They probably serve the worst sushi I have ever had. The nigiri was not tasteful at all, and the rolls were boring. Far better places out there for the price.

Food with a complimentary side of food poisoning, no thank you! Even before I suffered my after effects of eating here I was not impressed. The place looks nice and freshly re-done with modern chairs. The service was good. The menu was lacking any innovation it was all the same rolls you'd see anywhere. There was nothing special on the menu. I ate a red dragon roll and subbed the seared tuna for raw salmon. And a spicy tuna roll. They were small for the price paid. Didn't taste bad, but again nothing special. The BF had chicken pad Thai which was flavorless. On the meal alone I was gonna throw them a bone of 3 stars. But when your obviously serving a subpar product no matter how nice this place is, they need to get their seafood right. You always take a risk with sushi but in all the years and many places I've eaten it i have NEVER gotten sick. I recommend to stay far away!

Good little sushi place. We need a quick lunch before going to the airport so we stopped in. It was good and they had a nice food presentation. I got the tuna takti and the bai roll both were good.

Blown away. Sushi is amazing. Sashimi was very very fresh. Wait time on food was minimal. Very impressed!

Definitely not disappointed. Came to the site to ad my review and see all these conflicting write ups. My personal experience was excellent. I had been told by friends that Heart Rock was good so my wife and me went. Well, we had a Monster Lobster roll and a California roll with a couple of beers and desert and found everything from the prices, service and food to be extremely satisfying. No disappointment and will be back.

I have been going to this heart rock for many years and have never had a bad meal or experience. They're sushi is always super fresh and high quality and the service it always friendly and good. Went there the other day for lunch with out of town friends and we loved it so much we went back for dinner. This is a place you can't go wrong with.

I hate to do this to a place with such wonderful serving staff. Because the service was perfect. But the food was awful. I came for lunch and the restaurant was empty and myTGIF roll took like 15 minutes and the raw tuna inside looked like brown particulate matter. I think it was made the night before. It was all 60% rice and the tempura fish on top was all batter and old. I think fried hours before I was served it. I will never come here again. I got a pad Thai instead and it took another 10 minutes in a completely empty restaurant. Maybe 2 other guests were there. The pad Thai had no flavor. Sub par at best. It made me sad to eat here. What a waste of calories!

Heart Rock is a sushi restaurant with drabby looking old wooden chairs, generally aged in appearance, and a place that could use some sprucing up. The signs in the windows of "Proper Attire Required" without an explanation of what that might be along with "No Trespassing" certainly aren't the most welcoming and tend to raise, in my mind, issues of entering a trouble spot. However, it's not a troubled area and certainly not dangerous. It would seem that the signs are more geared to prevent the swimming suited beachwear crowd more than anything else but that's just a guess. It's a fairly large restaurant, spacious, not just a hole in the wall sushi place. As for food, it's not bad though the rice portion of their dishes tend to be somewhat large in comparison with the fish or seafood portions served elsewhere. The flavors are decent, but ordinary. The presentation is rather mundane and the service marginally acceptable. The prices, however, run somewhat lower than most other sushi restaurants which, with the lack of pizzazz associated with most sushi restaurant should be expected and which is one of the restaurants more redeeming factors. I'd probably rate Heart Rock at least 3 Star or maybe even Four Star if located out in the Midwest or where I'm from, in Appalachia, or maybe 20 years ago but since it is here in Fort Lauderdale and the year is now 2013 with so many other sushi restaurant choices, the best I can go is Two Stars. By the way, if you go to their web site most of the pictures, if not all of them, are not from their Gallery Mall location (so don't believe what you see) and you will also note menu items conspicuously absent.
